Mandalas are a meditation tool. Their use dates back thousands of years. They are generally circular in design. From an artistic perspective, circles are a lovely organic shape, and spiritually are often associated with the Creator. Circles appear throughout the universe, from planets to ova and their use has many intonations, from unity to eternity. They are also the basis of ancient symbols for both male and female. They are a powerful and unbroken shape, and interestingly the name “mandala” is very similar to the Xhosa word “amandala”, meaning power.

It is important to remember that a mandala can mean many things to many people. We have included some concepts for you to consider, but in the end, it is YOUR mandala, YOUR meditation and YOUR journey.

These mandalas can be used either as a stand for a figure, or can be mounted as a wall piece in their own right.

Peace in Unity

The main points of the compass rose underlie the surface markings of this mandala. The compass rose is significant not only because it represents physical direction but also the relationship of physical direction to time – both solar and lunar. Markings of the sacred geometries are also present, namely the star tetrahedron. The outer rim is engraved both in the twelve symbols of the astrological signs, and also the actual pattern of each of the corresponding constellations. On the outer points of the compass rose are the symbols of the eight major world religions. Placing them on these points is symbolic of the journey that mankind is undertaking. The order in which they have been placed on the mandala is totally random. At the centre of the mandala the sun has been overlaid with the moon and then the symbol for infinity. The sun is a universal symbol for male energy, the moon for female energy and the infinity sign for God.

A person meditating on this must take this on board and accept the visual lack of the symbol means it is buried within them.
